Delivered from both the planter & slave perspective, this fine, easy, but very specific illustration of "the way it really was" doesn't beg off on any pc-revisionism. Bauer tells the true, colorful, provocative, bitter & sad story from all angles -- male & female, black & white. Be ready for a bit of Scarlett O'Hara & fiddle-dee-dee Creolism before & after the most destructive event this country witnessed. En avant.

My Family name is Bringier and I was trying to find information regarding my family. This book has some very good history, but since I am African American, not much is said about that side of the family (unless I look carefully at the slaves they owned that are listed in the back)!
