Some Days You Dance

FABULOUS! I've never read a book that dealt so many issues in my personal life. While reading I would get great insight, then I would cry, and then I would actually catch myself laughing out loud. I've always struggled with consistency in my Christian life. It's been an absolute rollercoaster ride with me. But now that I've read Vikki's book, I truly have a deep, heart-felt understanding of what Christ has done for me. My adult life has been jammed packed with life challenges, most self-induced from not living a Christian life. During my times of despair I would turn to God until the challenge was over. When things got better, I went back to working thing out on my own. After reading Vikki's book, I know that I cannot be happy trying to figure out how to succeed on my own; I must look to God and His Word for direction. There is a story in the book that describes it perfectly. When Vikki was young she went to court after receiving a traffic violation for driving a go-cart on the street. While standing before the judge, Vikki's father took the blame for her wrongdoing. This one paragraph has completely changed the way I viewed what Jesus has done for me, and I now see God as my Father. This book has taught me how to have a relationship with God as my Father for the first time in my Christian walk.

Freedom comes from the truth

By Annie: I didn't realize that I had "unconscious beliefs and ways of thinking" that were not only hindering me but in many ways stopping me from receiving truth on the inside. Through Vikki Burke's gut-candidness in her book, Some Days You Dance, I have been able to see some of the "performance mind-sets" that I've had--- and to face them without a sense of being overwhelmed. Instead of being left with a nagging need to change, this book gave me specific "activations" that I could put into practice! In Chapter 8 when Vikki shared about how God took her step-by-step into a new love and a new relationship with her mother, it seemed like the Lord was speaking to me on a mega-phone. Vikki didn't just outline the victory-side of her experience, but she shared the in-between steps and didn't hold back. What I didn't need was another teaching or another behavior plan. I wanted the HOW-TO steps on effecting a heart-change that was real and that's exactly what I found. My relationship with my mom is showing a real difference that I can see in both of us! Not just an outward show but an inward working. Thank you to Vikki for her courage and grace to share all of her steps to victory and not just the ones that look "polished."

It is okay to Dance!

Reading Sister Vikki Burke's book "Some Days You Dance" was such a blessing and joy that I hardly wanted to put it down. It was uplifting to read a book written with such honesty from someone of Sister Vikki's standing within the Christian community. In the book, she takes you through the journey of her life and the lessons she has learned. Even those lessons, which emerge from things many of us, may be too embarrassed to speak about; Sister Vikki talks about them willingly and with a refreshing sense of humor. All the while feeding you the word of God and teaching you how to either, not make the mistakes she has made or if you have, how to go about rectifying them. Sister Vikki instills in us the importance of having a relationship with God, of being a Mary and not a Martha (LK 10:38-42), of having friends, of having fun and to remember that there is nothing wrong with just stopping to dance every now and then.
